The setting is the lesson, not a backdrop to it.
A Viking-history class taught inside a Viking coastline changes what a lesson can ask of a student — not "what did you read," but "what did you notice, standing here." That's the idea behind every room off the corridor: put the subject around the student, not on a slide in front of them.
